BCCC
Introduction
The Basic Christian Counselling Course (BCCC) is a qualification in its
own right but also serves as a transitional route for entry in the BA
Degree programme in cases where students have not met the BA Degree
admission requirements.
The Basic Christian Counselling Course (previously known as the
Caregivers Qualification) is meant for Christians interested or involved
in church related counselling and equips students to understand and
apply Christian counselling techniques. The course can furthermore be of
great use for professionals working in social care, health care and
education sectors such as auxiliary social workers, care workers for the
elderly and/or children, matrons, nurses and teachers. The counselling
techniques covered in the course pertain to self-awareness, anger,
anxiety, depression, marriage and family relationships, crisis and
trauma situations and adolescents (in process of accreditation).

PGCP
Introduction
The Postgraduate Course in Christian Psychology is meant for Christian
mental health professionals and counsellors (psychologists,
psychometrists, psychological counsellors, pastors, ministers and social
workers) interested in the integration of biblical faith and psychology.
With the completion of this course students will understand the
rationale for integration and the integration models. Students will be
able to provide, as Christian mental health professionals and
counsellors, mental health services and counselling from a biblically
based systemic perspective. This perspective includes the intra-psychic
functioning, interpersonal functioning and spiritual functioning of
people (in process of accreditation).

BA
Introduction
There are two options available for students who want to register for
the BA degree (accredited):
• BA Degree (General)
• BA Degree (Psychology).
Students who are not specifically interested in Psychology can select to
enrol for the BA Degree (General) and can major in Industrial Psychology
and/or Communication and/or Sociology and/or Education. This degree has
a specific focus on the world of work and will equip students with the
necessary knowledge and skills to pursue careers in the fields of
business, politics, research and/or education.
Students interested in the field of Psychology can major in Psychology
with specialization in Christian Psychology. This qualification forms a
spiritual, academic and professional basis to practice in the mental
health field as a Christian. The BA Degree in Psychology may lead to
acceptance in Psychology post-graduate programmes (e.g. Honours in
Psychology, Bachelor of Psychology)

B PSYCH
Introduction
The Bachelor of Psychology (accredited) is a professional degree (SAQA
NQF Level 7, level 8 on the HEQF) that may lead to registration as a
registered counsellor upon successful completion.
The BPsych is a four year degree of which the first 3 years correspond
to the BA degree (Psychology). This degree is meant for students who are
interested in furthering their counselling skills.
The BPsych fourth year includes thorough theoretical training in child
and adult psychopathology, community psychology, trauma counselling,
psychological assessment, pastoral counselling and counselling. It also
includes practical training in research skills and counselling
techniques. This qualification focuses on general counselling, pastoral
counselling, trauma counselling and community psychology.
On completion of the degree students are required to complete a six
months, full time (one year part time) internship at an institution
approved by the Health Professions Council of South Africa. After
completion of the internship, graduates are able to write the board exam
in order to register as a professional Counsellor.
BPsych fourth year selection takes place in September/October each year
and registration takes place in January of the study year. Students can
choose between three different focus areas during the fourth year of the
BPsych: 1) Trauma Counselling; 2) School Counselling; 3) Pastoral
Counselling.

3. Practical Work: Research skills will be assessed by means of a
research project that must be proposed and implemented. Counselling
skills will be assessed through the recording of counselling sessions
and feedback given in supervision sessions. An additional six-month,
full-time internship must also be completed at approved institutions and
under professional supervision.
